We perceive the site as a natural meeting place for citizens, a community space, a link between adjacent public buildings. The area has two levels divided by a staircase made of granite blocks. The upper level is in the original gradient along the road and uses, restores a historic well. The lower level is horizontal, residential, noise screened from the road. The water feature takes advantage of the fact that water can flow, splash, fall and create a surface. It makes use of the original well - the rendering, the lids forming individual streams of pumped water and the placement of three types of pumps attracts more than just children. The water then flows down the depressions carved into the staircase to the bottom of the square, where it meanders and forms a surface. The furnishings consist of oak 'splayed' chairs and benches positioned and angled to encourage sitters to interact with each other.
